Superintendent
Job Purpose
The Superintendent is responsible for managing assigned projects, including field operations, site safety, productivity, scheduling, quality control, and coordination of trade contractors and suppliers. Working closely with the Project Manager, the Superintendent leads the field execution of the project and reports directly to the Project Manager.
The Superintendent plans and coordinates construction activities, supervises on-site operations, ensures work quality and material standards, and maintains the project budget. They oversee all jobsite operations, ensure work aligns with construction drawings and specifications, monitor progress, and maintain communication with the Project Manager and stakeholders. The Superintendent is responsible for ensuring the project is completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality and safety standards.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
• Ensure that the health and safety project plans are implemented and maintained.
• Provide day-to-day on-site supervision of the field labor force.
• Oversee, manage, and document all daily jobsite activities, including OSHA safety compliance.
• Ensure the budget is followed in terms of field purchases.
• Review and approve trade contractor payment applications with the Project Manager.
• Inspect all crew performance and safety compliance.
• Develop and maintain a site logistics plan in coordination with the Project Manager.
• Coordinate with inspectors regarding required site licenses, permitting, and safety standards.
• Verify that final record drawings are complete and accurate.
• Mobilize the site and set up site utilities.
• Create and implement the project baseline schedule based on contract documents and subcontractor input.
• Monitor construction progress to ensure work is completed on time while maintaining quality standards.
• Supervise subcontractors and ensure punctuality, proper PPE, and performance expectations.
• Communicate issues, events, performance, and progress daily to the Project Manager.
• Write daily project progress reports with supporting photo documentation.
• Understand and enforce OSHA safety requirements across the jobsite.
• Work closely with Project Management to secure utilities, permits, plan checks, and Certificates of Occupancy.
• Understand and manage SWPPP requirements and mitigate impacts on the surrounding community.
• Manage subcontractor closeout, utility transfer, owner training, work lists, and punch lists.
Technical Skills Requirements
• OSHA 30 certification.
• Procore expertise.
• Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications.
• Bluebeam expertise.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong presentation skills.
• Effective written and verbal communication with project management and staff.
• Understanding of construction law.
• Six to ten years of relevant construction experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field, with experience appropriate to project size and scope.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to meet deadlines.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with and manage cross-functional teams.
